If you’ve decided to do something about your fine lines, wrinkles, or crow’s feet, you’re likely wondering which injectable to choose. Botox®, Juvederm®, and Restylane® can help you achieve smoother, younger-looking skin – so what’s the difference?
Botox®
Botox® reduces wrinkles on the face and is best for those who wish to smooth skin and reduce wrinkles between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and crow’s feet. This injectable relaxes the muscles and blocks the release of a chemical that causes wrinkles. It takes about 10 minutes, and the results last for approximately 3 months.
Juvederm®
Juvederm® is a similar injectable filler that works to reduce wrinkles, treat scars, and enhance thin lips. It bolsters skin elasticity and gives skin a smooth appearance – also working well on deep folds between the nose and cheeks, folds between the nose and outer corners of the mouth, and the cheeks. Typically performed on the lower parts of the face, results last up to a year and do not to be repeated as often as Botox®.
Restylane®
Restylane adds hyaluronic acid to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body but decreases as we age. Restylane® injections swell the tissues with water, smoothing away wrinkles and restoring plumpness to sagging areas. As a result, the skin becomes smoother, fuller, and more youthful-looking. If you are experiencing loss of lip fullness, fine and deep lines, and sagging cheek areas, Restylane® can restore plumpness and firmness to these drooping areas, smooth wrinkles, and create an overall more youthful appearance.
Perlane®
Approved by the FDA for use as a dermal filler for direct implantation into the skin, Perlane® is effective for smoothing out pronounced skin folds and wrinkles in the face. Similar to the commercial product Restylane®, Perlane® uses slightly larger particles and is injected at a deeper layer in the face. Perlane® is the most advanced treatment available for smoothing out and filling deeper cracks, lines, and wrinkles because it is formed of larger particles that are then injected further in the skin than Restylane®. Produced naturally in the body, hyaluronic acid has the function of adding voluptuousness and smoothness to the skin. Perlane® treatments work by boosting the amount of hyaluronic acid in the substrata of the skin to counteract common signs of aging, resulting in younger-looking and rejuvenated appearances with enhanced smoothness and plumpness.
