Preparing For Your First Visit
Preparing for surgery can be an overwhelming experience, but understanding what to expect beforehand can help ease your concerns. During your initial consultation, a surgical plan may be discussed. If you are a good surgical candidate and choose to move forward, your next steps are to schedule your surgery and pre-operative appointment. This visit will be about 2-3 weeks prior to your surgery.
First, you will meet with your Nashville plastic surgeon, Dr. Olivia MaDan, to discuss the surgery in detail and address any questions you have about the procedure. Then you will go to the nurse’s office, and they will review the paperwork with you. You will receive written pre- and post-op instructions and talk about the medications that can be used after the surgery. The nurse will also accept payment for the procedure, so you are all set come the day of the operation.
What to Expect on the Day of Surgery
On the day of the procedure, you will arrive at the surgery center in Nashville about two hours before your surgery appointment. If you were prescribed any medication, you should take it upon arrival. Make sure you bring your driver’s license and insurance card. Once you are checked in, our dedicated staff will take it from there.
What to Expect Post-Op
After your surgery, it is ideal to have family or close friends to provide assistance as needed for the first 2-3 days. They can help you prepare food, go to the bathroom, wake up to take medication and perform other daily activities that you may not be able to do on your own directly after surgery. You may experience mild discomfort for a short period of time. You should eat light foods for the first 24 hours after the procedure. Try to avoid heavy or greasy foods. Post-operative swelling is normal and will improve with time.
