Arm Lift in Nashville with Dr. Olivia MaDan
What does fitness look like to you?
The upper arms are a notoriously difficult area to improve with diet and exercise alone. Skin in the upper arms can stretch and sag due to aging, genetics, sun damage, and weight loss. Often, weight loss can make the loose or sagging skin in the upper arms worse, negatively impacting the aesthetic benefits of weight loss and diminishing self-confidence. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, can help address excess skin and unwanted fat in the upper arms for sleeker, smoother arms.
Nashville arm lift procedures can help you restore your sleek, toned arms to enrich your self-image and confidence. At BEYOND Collective, Dr. Olivia MaDan and our compassionate all-female team are dedicated to helping you achieve your aesthetic goals and feel confident in your skin.

What Is an Arm Lift?
Arm lift surgery, medically known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to reshape the upper arms by removing the excess fat and skin for a more toned appearance. During an arm lift, incisions are created on the inside or back of the upper arm, from the elbow to the underarm, to eliminate extra skin and tissues. Once the skin is realigned and sutured, the slimmer results are immediately visible.
At BEYOND Collective, Dr. MaDan sets her brachioplasty apart from other Nashville plastic surgeons by always combining the arm lift with circumferential arm liposuction. This approach consistently delivers superior results. To further enhance the surgical outcome, Dr. MaDan may use Renuvion® skin tightening, a cutting-edge minimally invasive treatment that enhances body contouring results without changing the downtime and recovery.
Nashville brachioplasty procedures address loose sagging skin, redefining the upper arm contours to enhance your body contour and boost your self confidence. Smooth, tighter arms can help you achieve the sleek, toned upper arms you’ve been working toward.
Not intended for weight loss purposes, an arm lift with liposuction is a body contouring procedure to address small areas of excess fat in the upper arms and enhance your overall figure. As such, Dr. MaDan recommends that Nashville arm lift candidates should be near their ideal weight and have a BMI of less than 30 before surgery.
Combine Procedures For Better Results
Brachioplasty procedures with liposuction are uniquely tailored to each patient. Dr. MaDan offers many body-contouring procedures customized to your anatomy that may enhance your overall results, including:

Preparing for Arm Lift Surgery
Before your Nashville brachioplasty surgery, it’s essential to be in good overall health. While Dr. MaDan will customize arm lift treatments for each patient, here is some general information to help you prepare.
• Stick to a consistent exercise program and eat a healthy, well-rounded diet with plenty of protein to help you maintain your stable weight.
• Stay well-hydrated before and after surgery.
• Visit your primary physician for an examination and appropriate testing to ensure you’re medically fit for surgery. For any person aged 50 and over, we require routine labs, such as CBC, BMP/CMP, and EKG.
• Stop taking medications, supplements, or vitamins that increase bleeding or bruising risks for at least 2 weeks before and after surgery. For example, avoid fish oil, garlic, ginseng, vitamin E, and ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications.
• If you currently smoke, vape, or use nicotine products, you should quit. As smoking is detrimental to your overall health and recovery, Dr. MaDan requires that patients stop smoking at least 6 weeks before and after surgery. A urine nicotine test will be performed on the morning of your procedure.
• Prepare your home and allow time in your schedule for recovery. Take adequate time off work, complete necessary chores and activities before surgery, and create a comfortable place to recover. It’s also helpful to freeze meals or set up a food delivery service. All necessary medications, supplies, and compression garments will be provided at your pre-operative appointment.
• Arrange for assistance. First, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure and stay with you for at least 24 hours. You may also need help with household management or childcare for a few weeks following surgery.

Nashville Arm Lift Overview
On the night before your Nashville brachioplasty, don’t eat or drink anything after midnight; however, take necessary medications with small sips of water. Avoid wearing makeup, lotions, or deodorants, and remove all jewelry. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that is easy to put on after your procedure.
Review your paperwork to ensure your surgery location and arrival time. At check-in, you may need to provide identification and emergency contact information.
On the day of your procedure, you’ll meet with Dr. MaDan and your anesthesia provider to review the details of your surgery and answer any final questions.
Dr. MaDan always includes circumferential liposuction of both arms with an arm lift to enhance the overall shape and outcome. She will begin your liposuction procedure using the appropriate technique based on your anatomy and goals as discussed during your consultation.
Arm lift incisions are often strategically placed within the bicipital groove to make them as inconspicuous as possible. Dr. MaDan will remove excess skin, tissue, and fat.
After achieving the desired contours, Dr. MaDan will realign the skin and close the incisions for smooth contours and slender, trim arms. Dr. MaDan will meticulously place multiple layers of sutures for closure and cover the incisions with steri-strips that will remain in place until your first post-operative appointment.
Following your arm lift procedure, your arms will be dressed in a compression garment to minimize swelling and support the tissues as they heal.
Depending on the characteristics of your brachioplasty procedure, it may last around 2 hours. This procedure can be easily combined with a breast procedure to minimize multiple separate surgeries and recovery.

Nashville Arm Lift Recovery
Nashville arm lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you will go home the same day after surgery. Arrange for someone to drive you home from your procedure and help you with household tasks, including childcare or pet care, for a few days.
Following your arm lift procedure, you should expect mild bruising, swelling, tenderness, and discomfort that will gradually subside in a few weeks. It’s important to avoid pressure on the treated area for a few days. To alleviate discomfort, Dr. MaDan may prescribe pain medications or recommend over-the-counter medications.
After your brachioplasty procedure, you will be fitted with a compression garment to minimize swelling and support your tissues as they heal. You must wear your support garment at all times, except when showering or laundering, for a minimum of 6 weeks.
To protect your incisions and allow tissues to heal properly, avoid strenuous activities like exercise and heavy lifting—more than 10 pounds—until released by Dr. MaDan. Patients can generally resume light exercises like walking or riding a stationary bike after 2 weeks. You will receive Dr. MaDan’s recommended scar therapy to minimize the appearance of your incisions.
Initial arm lift recovery depends upon the extent of the procedure and the body’s healing abilities, but it typically takes 1 to 2 weeks. Most patients need 1 to 2 weeks for recovery and can resume light work at that time depending on occupation.
How Soon Will I See My Nashville Arm Lift Results?
Following an arm lift, patients may see visible results immediately. However, it’s important to be prepared for swelling and bruising that may obscure the final outcome for 4 to 6 weeks. Residual swelling may persist, but full results are generally visible within 3 to 6 months.
Nashville brachioplasty scarring is most pronounced in the first few months as the incisions heal, forming a pinkish scar. However, it may take a year or more for the scar to mature and match your skin tone. While the scars will never disappear entirely, Dr. MaDan will provide you with her medical-grade scar therapy regimen to optimize the appearance of your scars.
Following all of Dr. MaDan’s post-operative instructions regarding proper sun protection, appropriate skin care, and maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine can help you maintain long-lasting Nashville arm lift results. Typically, patients can expert arm lift results to last 10 years.

Arm Lift in Nashville FAQs
The longevity of results after a body contouring surgery, such as an arm lift, depends on many factors. Genetics, environmental exposures, gravity, time, and aging are all factors beyond our control and may contribute to recurrent laxity. Modifiable factors like weight stability, a healthy diet, and routine exercise are all within your ability to control and can help maintain your surgical results. An ideal duration for contouring surgery results is 10 years.
For a very small number of patients, circumferential arm liposuction (with or without energy like Renuvion) may be an alternative to an arm lift. However, most weight loss patients have excess skin that must be removed. An arm lift is the only option to improve contours in the scenario with excess skin and laxity.
Yes, any procedure that requires an incision will leave a scar. An arm lift scar can be strategically placed within the bicipital groove, making it as inconspicuous as possible. Other scar placement options are on the posterior (back side) arm, which may be less desirable as the scar is visible to everyone behind you.
Dr. MaDan will provide you with a medical-grade scar therapy regimen to optimize the appearance of your arm lift scars.
Yes, it is usually safe to combine multiple contouring procedures in a single surgery. It is helpful to have a body contouring priority list so that your top concerns can be addressed first. Possible combinations could be pairing a breast rejuvenation procedure or an abdominoplasty with your arm lift.
Because your safety is Dr. MaDan’s priority, she prefers to limit the time you are under general anesthesia to 6 hours or less. Unexpected complications or any surgery lasting more than 6 hours will require an overnight postoperative hospital stay for close observation. Dr. MaDan has active admitting privileges at TriStar Centennial Medical Center.
