What Is a Body Lift?
Losing a large amount of weight is intended to improve your health and appearance. Dr. MaDan has met with men and women who are unhappy after losing a massive amount of weight because of unexpected cosmetic changes to their bodies. When you carry excess weight for a prolonged period, your skin stretches beyond the point where elastin can keep it contoured to your body. You may also find that you have areas of fat that cannot be reduced with diet and exercise. Before you feel disappointed with your weight loss journey, learn about body lift surgery at BEYOND Collective.
A Nashville body lift surgery can be performed on the upper or lower body. Some patients benefit from both procedures. A body lift is tailored to your personal cosmetic needs and may involve the:
- Abdomen
- Chest
- Flanks
- Lower back
- Arms
- Buttocks
- Breasts
- Thighs
We may recommend that your body lift be performed in stages so that you have time to heal after each surgery. Your surgical plan may involve one or more areas of the body, and you may need to stay at least one night in the hospital after your body lift.

What Happens During A Body Lift?
A lower body lift requires anesthesia and takes at least four hours to complete. Dr. MaDan may combine liposuction with your body lift to treat your hips, buttocks, thighs, and waist during one lift procedure. She will make an incision on each side, hidden under your waistband and within your bikini line. These incisions provide access to tighten underlying muscles and remove excess skin and fat. The incisions are then closed in layers to create thin, concealable scars.
The procedure requires a well-planned recovery stage to ensure a superb outcome and patient comfort. You may need two to three weeks off work to recover and rest. Dr. MaDan will likely prescribe medications to help with any discomfort or pain after a lower body lift operation in Nashville.

Body Lift Recovery
General tips for a smooth lower body lift recovery include:
• Stick to a consistent exercise program, and eat a healthy, well-rounded diet with plenty of protein to help you maintain your stable weight and avoid weight fluctuations.
• Stay well-hydrated before and after surgery.
• Visit your primary physician for an examination and appropriate testing to ensure you’re medically fit for surgery. For any person aged 40 and over, we require a baseline mammogram and routine labs, such as CBC, BMP/CMP, and EKG for anyone aged 50 or older.
• Stop taking medications, supplements, or vitamins that increase bleeding or bruising risks for at least two weeks before and after surgery. For example, avoid fish oil, garlic, ginseng, vitamin E, and ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications.
• If you currently smoke, vape, or use nicotine products, you should quit. As smoking is detrimental to your overall health and recovery, Dr. MaDan requires that patients stop smoking at least 6 weeks before and after surgery. A urine nicotine test will be performed on the morning of your procedure.
• Prepare your home and allow time in your schedule for recovery. Take adequate time off work, complete necessary chores and activities before surgery, and create a comfortable place to recover. It’s also helpful to freeze meals or set up a food delivery service. All necessary medications, supplies, and garments will be provided at your pre-operative appointment.
• Arrange for assistance. First, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure and stay with you for at least 24 hours. You may also need help with household management or childcare for a few weeks following surgery.

Body Lift | Lower Body Lift in Nashville FAQs
The longevity of a body lift depends on multiple factors. Some factors are within our ability to control, like body weight/body mass index, nicotine use, healthy diet, and exercise. Other factors beyond our control are genetics, environmental exposure, time, and gravity. Dr. MaDan’s goal for the duration of results for any body contouring surgery is 10 years. Weight stability (maintaining weight within 5 % above or below your weight at the time of surgery), a healthy diet, and routine exercise are all modifiable factors that can improve the longevity of your results.
A full body lift comprises elements from an upper body and lower body lift. An upper body lift often includes a breast lift (mastopexy), an arm lift (brachioplasty), and an upper back/bra line lift. A lower body lift usually consists of a circumferential abdominal/trunk procedure (ex. belt abdominoplasty, abdominoplasty + hip/buttock lift, fleur de lis abdominoplasty) and a medial thigh lift. A body lift is not a ‘one size fits all’ procedure. Each surgical component is individually customized to your specific goals and needs.
No, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is usually one component of a lower body lift. The tummy tuck is not a circumferential contouring procedure and only addresses the laxity and excess skin on the front of the midsection.
The goal of a body lift is to remove excess skin. The fat within the excess skin is removed. Less significant fat removal is performed with sculpture/contouring liposuction to refine and sculpt your remaining tissues. There is a limit to the amount of liposuction/fat removal that can be performed on the remaining tissues. Excess liposuction can damage the blood supply to the remaining skin, causing tissue loss.
