Breast augmentation is the most popular surgical procedure in the United States. Literally, hundreds of thousands of women every year get this procedure done. And although it’s common, we still think that an individual approach needs to be offered to every patient. We don’t just do it one way for every woman, we offer all of the options, but I like to recommend certain things to my patients that are based on the most current data and literature. I am always looking at meetings, new data, anything that I can do to better an experience for a patient and give her better results, fewer complications, and a satisfactory experience.
This is an actual silicon breast implant. The current design is not a liquid gel that was originally developed in the 1960’s; this is a cohesive gel implant, where the silicon would not leak out of this implant if there was a tear in it. That’s been a significant advantage to the breast implant. One of the things that is very important in considering the surgery is: what size do I go to? And I hear over and over again patients who have had their surgery somewhere else and they’ve come back and said “I just am not happy with my size.”
We have a proprietary sizing system from our implant company, and this has taken our re-operation rate due to size to 0%. It wasn’t high before, but now, for the last 2 years, we’ve not had any patient be unsatisfied with their size. And in addition, we want people to love their experience. I want people to be off pain medicine rapidly. I want them back to their daily activities. I want them to be looking good and feeling good about themselves as soon as possible. We do everything we can to make that happen.
