What Are Dermal Fillers?
Injectable dermal fillers are the modern beauty essential for staying ahead of the aging curve, delivering a subtle yet powerful refresh that leaves you looking effortlessly youthful. These expertly formulated treatments work in harmony with your skin and facial structure, targeting the root causes of wrinkles and volume loss to restore a naturally vibrant appearance.
In Nashville, dermal fillers are the go-to solution for those seeking results that fit seamlessly into their busy lives. With minimal discomfort, little to no downtime, and quick appointments, they offer the ultimate balance of convenience and effectiveness. Best of all, the effects can last for months, keeping you glowing and confident well beyond the treatment room.
Most dermal fillers are composed of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance your body naturally produces to keep skin supple and hydrated. Enhanced with lidocaine for comfort, these fillers are not only dissolvable but exceptionally safe when administered by our skilled plastic surgeon or her highly trained aesthetic injector.
What sets each filler apart is its unique formulation. Varying degrees of cohesivity, firmness, and water-attracting properties create tailored plumping effects, allowing for highly customized results. Whether you’re seeking subtle volume or dramatic definition, these innovative fillers are designed to elevate your look with elegance and precision.
At BEYOND Collective, we ensure the safety and comfort of your dermal filler treatment. For precise filler placements, Dr. MaDan uses our innovative Clarius High-Resolution Ultrasound device to guide her injections. While most dermal fillers contain lidocaine to address discomfort following injections, we also offer other solutions, such as a topical numbing ointment or Pro-Nox, to reduce your discomfort throughout the treatment. Pro-Nox is a patient-controlled pain management system that delivers nitrous oxide and oxygen (laughing gas) to alleviate pain and anxiety with very few side effects. Its effects wear off quickly, allowing you to drive after your appointment.
Your Nashville Dermal Filler Options
The Juvéderm® collection of dermal fillers is comprised of 6 tissue-specific HA fillers to temporarily restore volume loss in the face. These HA fillers utilize Allergan Aesthetics proprietary Vycross® Technology which creates the HA crosslinks. The 6 lines within the Juvéderm® collection include Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, Volux®, Voluma®, Vollure®, and Volbella®. Each line has an FDA-approved, tissue-specific indication. Voluma® is approved for use in the cheeks, chin, and temples while Volux® is approved for use in jawline. Vollure®, Ultra, and Ultra Plus are approved for use in lips and facial lines. Volbella® is approved for use in the lips and infraorbital hollows (under eye/tear trough area). Each line of filler has different characteristics (HA concentration, degree of cross-linking, affinity for water, etc.) specific to the targeted treatment area.
The Restylane® portfolio of fillers utilize two different methods of HA cross-linking: NASHA® and XpresHAn Technology™. Products formulated with XpresHAn Technology™ include Restylane Contour, Kysse, Defyne, and Refyne. These fillers are designed for movement and flexibility. The HA gel is soft and flexible, allowing seamless integration into the dynamic facial tissues for smooth expressions. Products formulated with NASHA® technology include Restylane-L, Lyft, Silk, and Eyelight. The HA gel in these fillers is firmer. The NASHA® fillers can provide more structure and lift to the treated tissues. Each filler type has tissue-specific, FDA-approved indications.
Revance Aesthetics’ RHA® collection of dermal fillers is designed for dynamics. This Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA) filler collection helps reduce the signs of aging and addresses dynamic wrinkles. Constant movement causes many fillers to break down quickly, but RHA fillers are designed to adapt to facial areas in frequent motion. RHA fillers move similarly to your natural tissue. The RHA collection includes four tissue-specific, FDA-approved HA fillers: Redensity™, RHA®2, RHA®3, and RHA®4.
With multiple formulas, RHA® fillers are versatile and can address unique concerns, such as moderate to severe wrinkles around the mouth, nasolabial folds, downturned corners of the mouth, and severe wrinkles on the lower face and jawline.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Traditional rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is a common surgical procedure designed to permanently reshape the nose and address breathing concerns. Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also called “liquid rhinoplasty” or “liquid nose job”, can modify the cosmetic appearance of the nose without the pain and discomfort, incisions, anesthesia risks, or lengthy recovery associated with traditional rhinoplasty. Non-surgical rhinoplasty should be performed by a trained plastic or facial plastic surgeon. Dr. MaDan also utilizes the Clarius high-resolution ultrasound to visualize the precise placement of filler to maximize safety and minimize the risk of complications like vascular occlusion (VO). The results typically last 18 months or longer and can be reversed if desired
Non-surgical rhinoplasty in Nashville can create facial harmony and temporarily enhance the appearance of the nose by:
● Improving symmetry
● Restoring facial proportions and profile balance
● Smoothing a dorsal hump
● Addressing drooping nasal tips
● Lifting the nasal tip or making it more prominent
Nashville non-surgical rhinoplasty will not correct septal deviation, breathing problems, or nasal structure. Patients seeking improvement in these areas are typically considered candidates for surgical rhinoplasty.
Biostimulators
Injectable biostimulators are the elegant solution to one of aging’s inevitabilities: the loss of collagen. Starting in your 20s, your body loses 1% of collagen each year, gradually diminishing the skin’s volume, elasticity, and youthful glow. Biostimulators address this at the source, stimulating your body’s natural collagen production to restore firmness and vitality over time. Perfect for those seeking a subtle, long-lasting transformation, these treatments deliver effortlessly natural results. When performed by a skilled aesthetic specialist, biostimulators offer a sophisticated approach to aging gracefully—helping you reclaim your glow, naturally, one collagen boost at a time.
Sculptra® is an injectable suspension of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It is the refined choice for those seeking a subtle, long-lasting transformation that enhances beauty from within. This injectable biostimulator is delivered to the areas of collagen loss and works by stimulating your skin’s natural collagen production. It can be used on the face, neck, décolleté, buttocks, hip dips, and other areas. Typically, patients will see immediate changes that dissipate after 24 hours as the body absorbs the product and begins collagen production. Most patients benefit from two treatment sessions spaced 6 weeks apart. Results can be seen as early as 4-6 weeks after treatment and can last as long as 2 years. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra® results develop over time, improving the skin’s foundation and creating a soft, natural-looking restoration of volume and firmness. Ideal for those who value understated elegance, Sculptra® offers a natural and graceful way to rejuvenate your appearance, empowering you to age beautifully and confidently.
Radiesse® is a unique dual-action dermal filler and biostimulator. This injectable is composed of Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) gel matrix. The CaHA particles provide immediate and long-lasting rejuvenation effects as they immediately organize into a scaffold to smooth wrinkles and folds while stimulating your cells to produce collagen and elastin for 12 months and 9 months, respectively, after one injection. After injection, your body will gradually replace the gel matrix with its own network of new collagen and elastin, visually smoothing lines and promoting renewed skin structure. Radiesse® can be used in many areas of the face and body including lower face, jawline, hands, buttock, and hip dips.

Preparing for Dermal Fillers
Before your Nashville dermal filler treatment, it’s essential to be in good overall health. Here’s some information to help you prepare.
● Stay well-hydrated before and after your procedure.
● Stop taking medications, supplements, or vitamins that increase bleeding or bruising risks for at least a week before and after your filler treatment. For example, avoid fish oil, garlic, ginseng, vitamin E, and ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications.
● For 24 to 48 hours, avoid consuming alcohol or caffeine as they can cause additional bleeding.
● If you smoke, vape, or use nicotine products, you should quit. Smoking is detrimental to your overall health, recovery, and results.
Dermal Filler Procedure Overview
On the day of your filler procedure, you will meet with Dr. MaDan to review the details of your treatment and answer any final questions you have. Come to your appointment with clean, moisturized skin. No makeup.
Dermal filler procedures are typically quick and relatively painless. Most patients report only minimal discomfort. Some fillers contain lidocaine, which will help with discomfort post-procedure. At BEYOND Collective, we also offer topical numbing creams and Pro-Nox, a patient-controlled pain management system that delivers nitrous oxide and oxygen to alleviate pain and anxiety with very few side effects. The effects of Pro-Nox wear off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself after your appointment.
Dr. MaDan will administer each filler injection with extreme precision, often using the Clarius High-Resolution Ultrasound device to ensure maximum safety. She will target only those areas that will enhance your natural-looking features without creating an overexaggerated look.
Dermal filler placement typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of treatment areas.
Nashville Dermal Filler Recovery
Following your Nashville dermal filler treatment, you may resume most normal daily activities with no downtime. Some patients will notice that the tissue around the injection sites is slightly bruised, swollen, and tender for the first 24 to 48 hours. Icing the area may help alleviate discomfort. It’s important to avoid rubbing or pressing on the treatment area as this may cause the gel to disperse to surrounding tissues and impact any enhancements to your appearance.
The longevity of your unique dermal filler treatment depends on several factors, including the product used, the treated location, and your body’s metabolic response.

Dermal Filler FAQs
HA fillers: Sculpt, Plump, Enhance
Dermal fillers are synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) products that closely mimic our tissues’ naturally occurring hyaluronic acid that helps add volume to the desired treatment area. Today, dermal fillers provide a wide range of cohesiveness designed to improve specific areas. Typically, softer, less cohesive fillers are placed more superficially in the face like lips, laugh lines, and fine lines around the mouth. Denser, more cohesive fillers typically provide more structure. These fillers are often used in the deep face for enhancement of cheeks, jawline, or chin. Depending on the product used, dermal fillers can last 6 to 18 months or longer.
Neurotoxins: Relax, Refine, Prevent
Botox® is the brand name of a popular injectable neurotoxin. Other brands or types of neurotoxin include Dysport®, Daxxify®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®. These toxins stop or decrease repetitive muscle contractions in areas like the forehead, crow’s feet, and between the eyebrows that lead to wrinkles visible at rest and with expression. Precise injections of the toxin into desired treatment areas can prevent muscle activation, reducing static and dynamic wrinkles for 3 to 4 months.
HA filler + Neurotoxins = The Perfect Pair
HA fillers and neurotoxin treatments are synergistic. Often, both modalities are required to achieve your desired results. For example, let’s say you have a vertical line between your eyebrows at rest. The crease becomes more prominent when you’re angry or concerned. The neurotoxin would stop the eyebrow muscles from worsening the crease. Once that motion has been stopped, the dermal filler can be used to soften, smooth, and fill the crease. Placement of filler without stopping the muscle contraction with the toxin would be ineffective and unsatisfying.
Dermal filler comprises synthetic hyaluronic acid strands crosslinked and suspended with lidocaine. The implantable gel is dissolvable and safe. The amount of HA is standardized in each syringe but varies by brand and type of filler. Fillers differ in their degree of cohesivity (G’), firmness, and affinity for water, which translates to a plumping effect.
Dermal fillers can be a great option for non-surgical facial rejuvenation and maintenance. Certain dermal fillers can be placed to improve skin hydration. The appropriate filler is selected based on your treatment goals and desired results. For example, if your cheeks feel flat or dull, denser, more cohesive fillers with a higher G’ can be used to restore structure and support. These fillers can give a more youthful lift to the midface with a minimum of 18 months of longevity. Most patients seeking non-surgical facial rejuvenation require 4 or more syringes of filler to achieve their desired outcome.
A sample treatment plan may include:
- 2 syringes for cheeks (1 cc per side)
- 1 syringe for jawline/jowls/marionette lines
- 1 syringe for nasolabial folds (0.5 cc per side)
In the world of aesthetics, 1 cc—a volume roughly equivalent to a small sugar packet—may seem like a tiny amount, but it carries significant impact. It’s essential to approach your consultation with an understanding of how much filler may be needed to achieve your desired results. Sometimes, we recommend holding off on treatment until you feel fully confident with the recommended plan and investment. After all, achieving exquisite, lasting results is far more valuable than settling for an insufficient, quick fix. At your consultation, Dr. MaDan will craft a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your goals, ensuring every step of your journey is thoughtful, precise, and designed for the beautiful results you deserve.
The most common areas treated with dermal fillers include lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheeks, jawline, chin, and fine lines around the mouth (sometimes called lip lines or smoker’s lines).
Other areas that are less commonly treated include:
- Glabella lines—the “11s” between the eyebrows
- Nose (“liquid rhinoplasty”)
- Crow’s feet
- Temples
- Infraorbital hollows under the eyes
- Horizontal necklines, or necklace lines
These areas carry a slightly higher risk for complications and should only be treated by a skilled provider or plastic surgeon. At BEYOND Collective, we utilize ultrasonography with the Clarius L15 in more delicate areas like these to visualize the surrounding tissues and maximize treatment safety.
The longevity of dermal fillers depends on the product used and the treatment area. Thinner, softer fillers placed in more superficial areas like the lips may last 6 to 12 months. Dense, structured fillers used against bony surfaces like the cheeks may last 18 months or longer. Once you have achieved your desired outcome, Dr. MaDan may recommend maintenance every one to two years. These annual treatments often require much less filler compared to your initial rejuvenation treatment.
Dermal fillers are delivered to the desired treatment area through a needle or cannula. Sensitive areas like the lips are numbed with topical anesthetic before treatment. During your treatment, we utilize distraction techniques with vibration and acupressure. Pro-Nox is also available to keep you comfortable during the treatment.
Dermal filler placement requires the use of a needle or cannula. Any break in the skin barrier can cause a bruise. While you should not apply makeup immediately after treatment, it is acceptable to wear makeup the next day. Depending on your occupation, returning to work after your treatment is usually allowed. Post-treatment swelling is normal and should be expected. The treated areas may feel a bit sore or tender. Most people should avoid exercise for at least 48 hours after their filler treatment.
Yes, it’s Dr. MaDan’s goal to help her patients achieve natural-looking results for a youthful, refreshed look. At BEYOND Collective, we do not recommend filler treatment in excess, which can create an unnatural, overdone appearance. Following treatment, you may experience an initial swelling that peaks 72 hours post-procedure and gradually decreases. Small pinpoint bruising is possible due to the use of needles or cannula to deliver the product. It is recommended to allow 2 weeks for the filler to settle before any additional facial enhancements.
