Breast surgery is the most common form of cosmetic plastic surgery for women in the United States. Several breast surgery techniques are available, including breast lift with or without implants and breast augmentation, among other procedures. Both breast lift and breast augmentation surgeries can improve the appearance of your chest, though they address very different problems.
A breast lift focuses on eliminating loose and sagging breast tissue, improving nipple location, and restoring a youthful look to the breasts. Breast augmentation focuses on adding and projection for a more feminine upper body. These procedures are complementary and are often combined for optimal results.
Patients seeking breast surgery should contact our office for a comprehensive evaluation to fully understand breast lift vs. breast augmentation and choose the procedure that best suits their individual needs.
Breast Lift
Breast lift, called mastopexy, addresses breast ptosis. Ptosis is sagging of tissue and skin that can produce an aged and unappealing look. At BEYOND Collective, we offer multiple incision patterns enabling correction of all levels of ptosis, producing an ideally sculpted, lifted breast.
You may be interested in a breast lift if you have sagging breast tissue, excess or loose skin around the breasts, or an unappealing nipple position.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation generally utilizes silicone gel or saline-filled implants to improve the size and shape of the breasts. This surgery addresses issues like asymmetrical breast volume, small breast size, and poor breast projection to produce a full, round breast.
We offer different options for implant placement and incision sites, and several breast implant options to help deliver natural-looking results. During your initial consultation, our qualified plastic surgeon, Dr. Olivia MaDan, will cover all of these options to help ensure your goals are met.
You may want to consider breast augmentation surgery if you have insufficient breast tissue, asymmetrical breast volumes, poor breast projection, or inadequate cleavage.
Breast Lift With Implants
Breast lift surgery aims to remove excess skin and lift nipple position to the most projecting part of the breast. Even though no breast tissue is removed, removal of excess skin may cause a slight reduction in breast cup size. While this is not an issue for every woman, combining a breast lift with breast augmentation may be recommended if your breasts are already smaller than you would like. Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, nursing, and aging can combine to cause loss of breast volume loss and sagging (called ptosis). In these cases, adding implants to your breast lift procedure may be the best option to restore volume and upper pole fullness.
This procedure, called augmentation mastopexy, lifts your breast and nipple position while improving breast shape and increasing volume. Silicone or saline implants can be used with a breast lift. A breast lift alone does not increase breast volume. A breast lift with implants can achieve fuller, firmer, and more shapely breasts all at once. Severely drooping breasts cannot always be corrected with either a breast lift or breast augmentation alone, but these two surgical techniques can be effectively combined to address this problem.
During your consultation, we will listen carefully to your specific desires, thoroughly assess your frame, and provide realistic recommendations about your surgical options.
