What Is Botox®?
Botox® is a cosmetic injectable treatment that reduces lines and wrinkles that are caused by contractions of the facial muscles. Known as “dynamic wrinkles,” these signs of aging most often develop on the forehead and around the eyes. Botox® contains an ingredient that temporarily relaxes the muscles, allowing the skin to relax as well. As this occurs, the wrinkles soften and are less visible.
The Nashville Botox® treatment is quick and painless. A small needle is used to inject Botox® into the muscles. You may feel a slight pinch on the skin as the needle is inserted. Dr. MaDan administers Botox® at several sites along the facial muscles to create a consistent reduction in wrinkles. Botox® can be used for:
- Lines that develop horizontally on the forehead
- Vertical lines between the eyes
- Crow’s feet
What Are the Benefits of Botox®?
- Non-surgical
- No incisions or scars
- Treatment take less than 30 minutes
- Long-lasting results
What is the Recovery Time for Botox®?
Botox® treatments in Nashville do not require any downtime. You can come in for your treatment and then return to your normal day. The tissue at each injection site may feel tender, and you may have some minor swelling. These symptoms typically only last 24 to 48 hours. You see some initial improvement after the injections, and full results can take up to seven days.
We recommend that patients schedule follow-up treatments approximately every four months to maintain the anti-aging benefits of Botox®. The results of each treatment may last four to six months.

Botox® FAQs
Can I wear makeup after Botox®?
Yes! You can wear makeup immediately after your Botox® treatment. However, the treatment area may be sensitive following your injections, so we typically advise patients to wait a few hours in order to prevent any additional stress to the treatment area.
At what age should I get Botox®?
There are benefits to receiving Botox® at nearly any age. Patients in their 20s can benefit from Botox® as an anti-aging treatment, preventing and prolonging the development of facial wrinkles. Patients who are in their 40s, 50s and beyond can also benefit from Botox® by diminishing wrinkles that have already formed, as well as preventing them from worsening. Therefore, if you are interested in preventing or diminishing signs of aging, you may be a good candidate for Botox® regardless of your age.
How do you make Botox® last longer?
One of the best ways to make your Botox® last longer is by limiting your sun exposure, and using the proper sunscreen when you are out in the sun. Additionally, we recommend scheduling regular treatments, and sticking to your Botox® regimen. Over time, regular Botox® injections can improve your results as the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles are repeatedly treated.
What shouldn’t you do after Botox®?
The most important thing to do after Botox® is avoid any touching, rubbing or massaging of the treatment area. Additionally, patients should avoid exercise, drugs and alcohol for at least 24 hours.
Is Botox® noticeable right away?
No, the effects of Botox® will take a few days to become noticeable. Generally, patients begin to notice results from Botox® within three or four days, with full results becoming noticeable within two weeks.
What is recovery like after Botox® or Dysport®? Can I go back to work or exercise on the same day?
Neurotoxins like Botox®, Dysport®, and Daxxify® are injectable cosmetic treatments for static and dynamic wrinkles. If desired, the treatment can be performed on the same day as your initial consultation. The product is precisely placed in specific anatomic areas to stop muscle movement and wrinkles. Your skin and face should be free of makeup and will be prepped with alcohol before the treatment. Afterward, tiny injection bumps (almost like mosquito bites) are expected and will resolve within 15 – 30 minutes post-treatment. Do not reapply makeup after your treatment. We recommend staying upright and avoiding exercise/strenuous activity for 4 hours after treatment. Depending on your occupation, returning to work post-treatment is allowed. It is acceptable to wash your face that night; avoid excess rubbing, gua sha, facial rollers, or massage for 48 hours. Do not get a massage or facial for 48 hours post-treatment to minimize the risk of product migration.
Can anyone get Botox® treatments?
In general, anyone who is not pregnant or breastfeeding may be a candidate for neurotoxin treatments. Anyone with a known allergy to the neurotoxin or its components should avoid treatment. An ideal neurotoxin candidate has some dynamic lines/wrinkles with facial movement, few static lines/wrinkles, and good skin health. Younger patients may be seeking neurotoxin treatments as a form of preventative care. Dosing and treatment plans are individually customized to your needs and goals.
What can I do to prevent or treat bruising after Botox®?
To minimize the risk of bruising, it is recommended to avoid NSAIDs, aspirins, excess fish oil supplementation, and alcohol before your treatment. Pre-treating with oral arnica may also be beneficial. There is no guarantee that these measures will prevent a bruise. Post-treatment, topical arnica may be applied. Continuing oral arnica supplements may be beneficial for a few days after your treatment.
If bruising does occur, it is typically very small and easily concealed. Sometimes, an IPL (intense pulse light) laser can rapidly improve small bruises.
What is the difference between Botox® and® Xeomin®?
Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Daxxify®, and Jeuveau® are different brand names of cosmetic injectable neurotoxins. There are minor differences between toxin concentration, reconstitution recommendations, and dosing. Daxxify has a proprietary peptide-transport mechanism, which may increase the duration of effect for some patients.
What areas are most suitable for Botox®?
The areas most commonly treated with neurotoxin are the forehead, eyebrows (“11’s”, worried, concerned, angry brows), and crow’s feet. Other treatment areas include bunny lines, chin dimpling, upper lip/lip flip, jawline, and neck.
How often will I need to get Botox®?
The effects of your cosmetic neurotoxin treatment are not permanent. Your provider should adjust your dosing for 3 to 4 months of results. If your neurotoxin does not last the full 3 to 4 months, your dose should be adjusted accordingly. Repetitive, underdosing/undertreating areas with neurotoxin, a “touch up,” is an inefficient use of time and not recommended.
Will my face be able to move after Botox®?
Yes. Your face will be able to move after your neurotoxin treatment. With a thorough facial assessment and consultation before your treatment, your provider should be able to recommend an appropriate dose and target treatment areas to achieve your goals. The onset of the neurotoxin effect varies between the different brands. Typically, the neurotoxin should be in full effect 2 weeks post-treatment. If needed, an enhancement for balancing can be performed at that time. Your provider should welcome your feedback and can refine the plan (dose, placement, etc) for your next treatment.
