Top 10 Plastic Surgery Tips

Many patients wish they knew then what they know now when it comes to plastic surgery. Here are the top 10 plastic surgery tips:

1. Research your surgeon

Do your homework and ask your surgeon about his/her credentials and experience performing your procedure. Ensure they are accredited by the proper boards and ask friends and family for recommendations. Trusting your surgeon is an important first step in your road to plastic surgery.

2. Get plastic surgery for you – not anyone else

Have you ever met someone who got liposuction or a breast augmentation for his or her partner? Chances are, they aren’t too happy with the results. Plastic surgery can be a huge undertaking. It not only changes how you look, but it can take a while to recover from. Patients who are looking to get plastic surgery for themselves (and not family, spouses, or society) are the happiest with their results.

3. Know your face & body

Don’t bring a photo of a tall, thin-framed blonde with a round face as your inspiration if you are a petite, broad-shouldered, brunette with a heart-shaped face. What looks good and what suits some people doesn’t suit others. Know how a rhinoplasty procedure, facelift, or liposuction will affect your body – not the before and after photos you see online.

4. Look for a surgeon well practiced in a variety of procedures

If you visit a surgeon who only performs facelifts, chances are, they will recommend a facelift. Visit a surgeon who has a variety of treatments in their arsenal and can recommend a procedure that will best suit you, not them.

5. Start small.

Unless you’re positive you want dramatic results right away, start with an injectable or dermal filler. A facelift will change the look of your face, and many patients aren’t quite ready for dramatic results when they begin exploring plastic surgery.

6. Good skin care is key to prevention and lasting results

Good, regimented skin care can take years off your face and prevent future skin damage. Prescription strength anti-aging ingredients such as retinol and skin brighteners even out skin tone and remove dead skin to reveal new fresh skin.

7. Fillers can be used in unlikely places

Do you hide your hands whenever possible? They say your hands give away your age. FDA has approved the use of fillers in the hands to mask signs of aging. There are numerous non-facial areas that can benefit from dermal fillers and injections.

8. Don’t be fooled by bargains or advertising

Ever heard the phrase, “good, cheap, fast – pick two?” Remember, ‘cheaper’ does not mean ‘better.’ If a deal seems too good to be true, it likely is. Don’t believe advertising that promise different results than competitors, either.

9. Think about it

Don’t walk into a plastic surgeon’s office one day and walk out after surgery. Take time to do research, schedule a consultation with your surgeon, and go home and think about your decision. Giving this some thought will ensure you are happy with your surgery.

10. Understand the recovery process

If you’re having an involved surgery such as a facelift or breast augmentation, take time off work, arrange for child care, and cancel social engagements for the recommended amount of time. Patients who don’t plan for recovery time end up not resting or taking it easy long enough.
