Top Breast Lift Recovery Tips
For many women, a breast lift is exactly what they need to feel rejuvenated and confident once more. While breast lifts are extremely common and generally safe procedures, there are of course several ways that you can support your recovery process. By following these simple tips, you’ll help your body feel better, faster, so that you can enjoy your newly lifted silhouette.
Expect Some Discomfort
Most patients will experience the most pain, swelling and bruising immediately after surgery. Fortunately, pain medication can be taken to help decrease any discomfort. It’s also important to wear the surgical bra and compression bandages, as advised by your doctor. For many, this is the most challenging part of recovery, with the potential for nausea that will subside on its own. During this time, it is especially important to rest. Outsource as many household tasks as possible, and take at least a week off of work, so that you can navigate these post-surgery days with ease.
Slowly Reintroduce Activity
After about one week, you will begin to feel less pain. At this time, and at your doctor’s discretion, you may be permitted to return to work and light activities such as walking. However, pain and swelling tend to last a bit longer, and any heavy activities that could put pressure on the surgical site should continue to be avoided.
Give Yourself Healing Time
In the second week, you’ll likely be feeling ready to increase your activity level. Normal daily activities are generally allowed. Around this time, you may also be allowed to take baths. However, any vigorous activity is still off-limits. This is to protect the incisions and ensure that you achieve the high-quality results you are seeking. While it may be frustrating to slowly reintegrate in this way, it is the best way to make sure that you are completely satisfied with your new look.
Let Your Body Adjust
Any surgery–even one as common as a breast lift–is a big deal for the body. You were just cut open, after all, and the body will need time to re-acclimate to this. Many patients experience increased nipple sensation immediately following their procedure. However, this will return to normal during the recovery process. Additionally, for best results, the step-by-step reintegration of exercise is a must. While many active people may wish to return to more vigorous workouts sooner, your doctor will explain when it makes sense to do so. Trust us when we say that it will be well worth the wait.
