What is a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a cosmetic surgical technique, in which the doctor tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall while removing flabby skin and fat from the stomach area. The tummy tuck can be either full or partial, depending on the doctor’s recommendation and the client’s wishes. Clients who seek this type of cosmetic surgery usually suffer from flabby tissue after a major weight loss, or a pregnancy.
How is a Tummy Tuck Performed?
Abdominoplasty surgery normally requires two to three hours for a full tummy tuck and one to two hours for a partial (mini).
During the procedure, two incisions are made, one long horizontal incision from hipbone to hipbone, and one incision to relax the naval and its adjacent tissue. The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall and the abdominal muscles are repaired. The skin is pulled back down to cover the abdominal muscles at which time; any remaining loose skin is removed.
