Our qualified plastic surgeon Dr. Olivia MaDan can masterfully perfect your breasts with the most advanced and cutting-edge breast surgery techniques. Contact Plastic Surgery Affiliates today to schedule your complimentary consultation for nipple and areola reduction in Nashville.
Areola reduction surgery is a safe and simple procedure that can reduce the diameter of one or both of your areolas. It can be performed on its own or in combination with a breast lift, breast reduction, or breast augmentation. This procedure is also popular with our clients who have recently undergone pregnancy or lost a significant amount of weight, leaving them with misshapen areolas.
Prior to your nipple and areola reduction procedure, you will be invited to our office in Nashville for an initial consultation with our knowledgeable plastic surgeon, Dr. MaDan, to determine your unique needs and to establish how we can best help you achieve your goals.
During the consultation, Dr. MaDan will review your medical history, including any medications you are taking, as well as your lifestyle choice—especially alcohol, drugs, and nicotine intake. You will be required to stop taking blood thinners and to stop smoking, using nicotine products, recreational drug use, and/or drinking to ensure the safest, most optimal results from your breast surgery procedure.
Your nipple and areola reduction surgery can be performed in-office under local anesthesia. If performed in combination with another breast or body surgery, you will likely require general anesthesia at our surgery center in Nashville. After the area is numb, Dr. MaDan will remove the outer excess of the pigmented, areolar tissue. Usually, the desired areola diameter is 38 – 42 mm, however this may be customized by you. Placement of the incision at the border of the skin and areola allows for easy scar concealment. Your new areola will be secured with a suture deep inside the breast, which will prevent the areola from widening and stretching. Dissolvable stitches will then be used to close the incision site. Your incisions are closely monitored by our expert medical team during your recovery.
In most cases, you will be cleared to go home almost immediately after surgery. However, the general breast surgery recovery period is usually two weeks before you can resume normal activity. Make sure you schedule lots of time for rest and relaxation and have lots of help around the house. Exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for about two weeks after your procedure.
To ensure the most optimal recovery after your nipple and areola reduction in Nashville, we recommend that you closely follow all post-operative instructions outlined by our expert medical team. Before your procedure, you will be thoroughly briefed on these instructions. You will be required to come in for subsequent follow-up appointments as we monitor the progress of your recovery. Most patients will see immediate results.
