Hormone Replacement Therapy in Nashville, TN

What is Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Many changes develop in the body as we age, but few produce as many symptoms as hormonal imbalance. Over the years, the body begins to produce fewer hormones or may stop altogether. For men, this means a lack of testosterone, and for women, it means a lack of estradiol and testosterone. A hormonal imbalance can cause fatigue, depression or changes in mood, fluctuations in weight, a lowered sex drive and more. Men suffering from a hormonal imbalance may also experience erectile dysfunction. With hormone replacement therapy, the hormone levels in the body can be restored to normal. As a result, patients can eliminate many of these symptoms and enjoy a range of benefits. At Plastic Surgery Affiliates, we use a pellet therapy hormone replacement technique from BioTE® Medical.

What is the Cost of Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy is typically not covered by insurance, so patients should expect to cover the full cost of their treatment. The cost of pellet therapy will vary depending on the patient, as different patients will need different doses. For women, the average cost per pellet is about $350. This cost is slightly higher for male patients which is around $700. We can discuss the details of your cost for hormone replacement therapy at the time of your consultation. For your convenience, Plastic Surgery Affiliates offers financing options for qualified patients.

What Are the Benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy?

There are several benefits of hormone replacement therapy for both men and women. Men often enjoy an improvement in the following conditions:

  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Low sex drive
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • A reduction in risk of Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, heart disease and more

Female patients can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Relief in menopausal symptoms
  • Increased sex drive and performance
  • Improvements in mood
  • Improved sleep patterns

The pellet therapy technique for hormone replacement also offers unique benefits over other hormone replacement techniques. The hormones used for pellet therapy are completely natural, eliminating the drawbacks of synthetic hormones. Additionally, pellets ensure a consistent release of hormones into the body through cardiac output. Pills, creams and other methods of hormone replacement therapy cause a roller-coaster effect as hormones enter the body, which makes it difficult to achieve predictable and steady results.

How is Hormone Replacement Therapy Administered?

At Plastic Surgery Affiliates, hormone replacement therapy is performed by our nurse practitioner Carmen Muehlbauer. We use pellet therapy for hormone replacement therapy, which means that a pellet composed of natural hormones is inserted into the body, where it will slowly release hormones over time. This pellet is typically inserted into the upper buttocks, near the hip. These hormone pellets are a little larger than a grain of rice, so they will be practically unnoticeable and require a very small incision. The incision will be made after local anesthesia is used to numb the area, eliminating any discomfort the patient may feel during the procedure. Once the pellet is inserted, the incision will be closed and the treatment will be complete.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Hormone Replacement Therapy?

The results from your hormone replacement therapy will depend on your initial hormonal deficiency and the specific symptoms you are experiencing. The hormone pellets begin to release natural hormones into the body immediately, so many patients begin to notice improvements in their symptoms within just a few weeks. In many cases, it can take a few months for hormonal balance to be restored. As a result, you may notice gradual improvements but may not achieve optimal results for as long as six months after treatment.

Is There a Recovery Period After Hormone Replacement Therapy?

After insertion of the hormone pellet, we may recommend that patients avoid exercise for a short time until the treatment area has healed. However, patients should be able to return to work and other activities immediately. After insertion, the body will slowly absorb the hormone pellet until it is completely dissolved. At this point, many patients receive an additional pellet to maintain hormonal balance.
